Note: The documents required for PoA may depend on the requesting institution and its jurisdiction.

Common proof of residency examples

Tip: The document must contain the full name, home address, and the document issue date, in most cases. Both paper documents and electronic documents in PDF are accepted.

  • Tax bill (not older than three months).

  • Mortgage statement.

  • Certificate of voter registration.

  • Correspondence with a government authority regarding the receipt of benefits such as a pension, unemployment benefits, housing benefits, and so on.

  • Home internet and TV bills (but not from satellite TV companies).

  • Landline telephone bill.

  • Bank statement with the date of issue and the name of the person (the document must be not older than 3 months).

  • Utility bill for gas, electricity, water, internet, etc. linked to the property (the document must not be older than 3 months).

  • A lease agreement that is current and has the signatures of the landlord and the tenant.

  • Rent bills issued by a real estate rental agency.

  • Credit card statement issued by a bank.

  • Letter from a recognized public authority or public servant (any government-issued correspondence not older than 3 months).

Alternative proof of residency examples

Tip: The same document cannot be used to confirm both an identity and a place of residence. So, if an applicant submits an ID document as PoA, they should use another document to confirm their identity.

The following documents can also be accepted as valid PoA, but only if they contain an address:

  • Passport.

  • Identity card.

  • Driving license.

  • Residence permit (EU samples containing address).

Documents that do not count as proof of address

  • Old utility bills linked to the property (older than 3 months).

  • Pension statements.

  • Insurance policies.

  • Mobile phone bills.

  • Medical bills.

  • Receipts for purchases.

  • Insurance statements.

  • Documents stating PO Box addresses.

  • Checks.

  • Envelopes and parcels showing your name and an address.

  • Prepaid card invoices.

  • Mobile sim cards+ bills issued to a business address.

  • Bills from debt collection agencies.

  • Bills from fintech companies.

  • Papers referring to discount cards which cannot be considered as bank cards.

  • Car rent bills.
